  6. higgsxzj on December 24th, 2010 4:16 pm

i am owned by 2 parrots: greenwing macaw and bluefront amazon. i also have 2 cats. they all get along just fine :)

  7. FromonTReprezenT on December 24th, 2010 4:39 pm

Just a thought, you could try giving nikki a treat when she does what you ask her to, that way shes more likely to play on cue :) beautiful bird tho, wish i had one :(

  8. Flare1728 on December 24th, 2010 4:55 pm

if you’re asking that, then you’re months of research and good long hard thought from being ready to own one. And to answer the question, cats have a bacteria in their teeth and claws that can be deadly to birds. They like to play with dogs and dogs like to play back, a larger dog can accidentally injure the bird though, and a smaller dog can be injured by the bird

  9. parrotland on December 24th, 2010 5:07 pm

I have 3 dogs and none of them have ever harmed any bird here. In fact, they protect them. It should be noted, however, that all of my dogs are herding dogs (2 Pembroke Welsh corgis and an Aussie shepherd). I would be very careful with any “bird dog”, terrier or sight hound.

  10. DEGENERATEGAMBLERWEE on December 24th, 2010 5:40 pm

how would macaws get along with catsdogs

  11. MckennaIrieann on December 24th, 2010 6:10 pm

I have an Orange Winged Amazon and I saves 750 dollars for it! It’s sad because it only likes my father, no matter how much time and what good treats I give him.. I’m only 11!

  12. parrotland on December 24th, 2010 6:49 pm

No, she is actually a medium sized macaw. The big ones are Greenwings, Hys and Buffons.

  13. sonofZekie on December 24th, 2010 7:09 pm

  14. cpfanrox on December 24th, 2010 7:43 pm

  15. 12fourlife on December 24th, 2010 8:21 pm

Wow that’s a fair and decent price here in chicago there expensive and the breeder wants 1500 to 1600 hundred dollars for the bird.

  16. o0Witchy0o on December 24th, 2010 8:35 pm

hes a cutie, reminds me of Jacko, a macaw i used to look after when i worked in a pet shop, i wanted to take him home when the store closed but the store owners woundnt let me, i still miss him now but we became great pals :)

  17. LRDelo on December 24th, 2010 9:10 pm

They typically are friendly, some more so than others, but generally only with people they know.

They can also be defensive or nasty towards people they perceive as a threat.

If a bird bonds strongly with a human of the opposite gender, they can become jealous of humans of the same gender (I’ve experienced this.)

Your best bet would be to find some owners, a reputable pet shop that specializes in birds, or some kind of club or something, and educate yourself and so on.

  18. LRDelo on December 24th, 2010 9:44 pm

I’m no expert but have been around – and shared living spaces with – a number of birds.

Most birds bond with at least one of their primary caretakers. The more they are socialized (assuming they want to be) the better they will be with outsiders.

They are smart, social, and gregarious by nature.

They can also be shy and defensive or aggressive around strangers, and can become jealous of interlopers.

Depending on their size they can also be rather dangerous.

  24. bailey1950 on December 25th, 2010 12:09 am

Can birds be friendly? If so, how can you train them. I am thinking about purchasing a bird when I graduate next year.

    Thanks

  25. parrotland on December 25th, 2010 12:44 am

Tink was originally purchased for $900 in Maryland from a pet store. Usually, they sell for $1100 in the same area. This particular bird had been in the store for way too long.

  26. thespike200 on December 25th, 2010 1:14 am

Your macaws and this video are what got my Ray to start quacking like a duck. He loves when I play this video. Now he does voices/sounds of all the farm animals. thanks!

  32. aflyboy4u on December 25th, 2010 4:39 am

diego reminds me of my birdie, who is a shamrock macaw. she’ll change pitch and style of “hello” to grab you attention. they’re more social than i ever imagined. i’m glad that you take such good care of your special friend. i treat mine just like another person.

  33. MyyLitleFLaMe on December 25th, 2010 5:15 am

    are they barking?

  34. mikejessmax on December 25th, 2010 5:32 am

I think one of your birds has an identity crisis. They think they’re ducks.

  35. WoahThereTurbo on December 25th, 2010 5:46 am

he only says in the beginng wa wa

  36. bringinbackgoodtimes on December 25th, 2010 6:22 am

u r right thinkin the dust isnt good4u,but thr r filters&machines on sale that take a lot of the dust away..if u r being ill with it,then stop straight away..if not & u find an air PURIFIER machine is available, get one..it will be well worth it&will mean u get 2keep hold of yr bird, hopefully for many years..good luck..
If u in UK. premier cages (found in the Parrot society mag) have purifiers..they round £100,but if its diff btween gettin rid & keepin ya bird, to me theres no contest.

  37. bringinbackgoodtimes on December 25th, 2010 7:17 am

what sort of bird is it we are hearing in the background? is that a macaw too? they both sound great company, and its good that you are rescuing them..well done you! Keep up the good work, they are beautiful birds who deserve our utmost respect..
Sometimes with mine, I play video of him talking, to him, and he answers himself and kicks off as if theres another bird in and he hasnt ok’d it..its quite funny..
But arent they messy so-and-so’s too?? lol

  38. ilonapet on December 25th, 2010 7:45 am

i’m always glad to see videos of birds outside their cages…greenwings are my favorites, had one once…nice video!

  39. Tanja060100 on December 25th, 2010 8:21 am

  40. Tanja060100 on December 25th, 2010 8:51 am

    Hello Diego,
You made me laugh!!You are so wonderful!I have to see more tapes with you, cutiepie!

  41. gameshowfreak on December 25th, 2010 9:34 am

    gorgeous bird

  42. kirkygirl on December 25th, 2010 10:15 am

Well, I think that the feather dust would be harmful to you if you have no medical problems or have no qualms about cleaning it up.
I actually think that moving your ekkie into a “busy” place in the house for the day would be beneficial, then you can move it into your bedroom at night.

  43. OverTheRaynbow on December 25th, 2010 10:23 am

    LOL Quack Quack!

  44. jrmno1 on December 25th, 2010 10:42 am

What a great video. Diego is quite the talker. Our greenwing Annie is just learning to talk.

  45. supergentleman on December 25th, 2010 11:33 am

I love Diego. He’s a really cool bird. Macaws are my favorite birds.

  46. Redparrotsg on December 25th, 2010 11:57 am

LOL…I love this video. While watching it our B&G yelled hello back several times, then when your phone rang our CAG answered it and kept on with a conversation. This video is a great “conversation starter!” Love your birds!

  47. MCPleasureGiven on December 25th, 2010 12:06 pm

i have a lil ekkie… in my bedroom.. he is 5 months old and his name is ZORRO…. my parents are freaking out because they recon its not healthy to have birds were i sleep and that this powder that comes off birds is very bad for u to inhale…

seeing as though u seem to know ur birds…maybe u can shed a light on this situation as i’d hate to move my baby from my room.. we are like inseprable brothers…

    thanks.

  48. piercesdesigns on December 25th, 2010 12:49 pm

LOL, yeah they are spoiled rotten!! We have 6 birds in our home right now. 2 male ekkies, 2 B&G’s, 1 GW and a tiel. We also have 3 kids (12,12,18) and 2 dogs and work full-time plus design and create glass jewelry. I think we are crazy!

We are thinking of adopting Diego into our home forever. :)

  49. Jadenwings on December 25th, 2010 1:26 pm

OMG–How lucky these birds are to have you!! I only have ONE greenwing and he takes up half of every day!
If I didn’t have to work, I would get more birds! They are such a joy!! ( Have to work to support the bird’s toys, cages, playstands, food, oh and MORE toys!!)
